Application Guidelines

Eligibility Criteria

-High School senior who is a full time resident of Greater Middletown (Middletown and the surrounding towns of Portland, Cromwell and Middlefield)

-U. S. citizen or a permanent/legal resident

-Must be attending a post-secondary school /institution in the United States for the academic 2026-2027 academic school year   

- The applicant’s name must ONLY appear on the first page of the application. This is to ensure that the       scholarship selection committee does NOT know the identity of the applicant while making selection       decisions

- Applications must contain all the documentation indicated in the checklist.  Completed applications should be mailed to:

Application Deadline

Applications must be received or postmarked by June 16, 2026. Be sure to submit your completed application to your guidance office in enough time for it to be processed and mailed by the deadline.

-Post-Secondary School Information / Financial Information / Employment History Page

-Transcript(s) (copy)

-2 Recommendation Forms

-Essay ( no more than 2 pages)

Selection Process

The scholarship is based on financial need, academic achievement, community involvement, and an essay expressing the student’s appreciation for the goals and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Notification & Awards

-Scholarship awards will be in the amount of $500 per year, for a maximum of 4 years, as you pursue your college education as a full-time student. At the end of the 4-year period, the grand total of this award will be $2,000.

 

-Recipients are required to submit proof of enrollment annually, in order to receive awards. Awards are mailed directly to the student.

 

-The recipient(s) will be notified the first week in July.
